– NASA’s People’s Assembly has suffered yet another setback after the government declared it illegal
– Attorney General Githu Muigai has warned counties passing the People’s Assembly motion that they risk being charged if found to be using county funds
The government has thrown cold water on NASA’s People’s Assembly only a day after it received backing from another of Raila’s stronghold.
Attorney General Githu Muigai on Thursday, December 7 said that the People’s Assembly was unconstitutional as it is not recognized in Kenya.

He further explained that Parliament as well as county governments have not sanctioned the formation of the People’s Assembly.
“Similarly, the so called People’s Assembly are institutions totally unknown to the constitution of Kenya and totally unknown by the county governments” He said on Thursday, December 7.
Only a day ago, The National Super Alliance(NASA) leadership and supporters were relieved after Machakos County became the 12th county to pass People’s Assembly motion.
As TUKO.co.ke reported earlier, Mombasa County Assembly also became the eleventh county to pass People’s Assembly motion after Busia, Siaya, Kakamega, Vihiga, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, Makueni, Kilifi and Kwale County Assemblies
Despite the ‘endorsements’ from various NASA strongholds, the government is now warning leaders against using county funds to sponsor the “illegal” county Assembly.
“Any person involved in the use of money legitimately voted by the County Assembly and is being used for this illegitimate purpose means they can be surcharged. The Govt retains the right to review how counties are using their funds”. Muigai further stated.
He has now warned that anyone involved in the formation of the illegal body would face the full force of the law.
