NASA ‘s planned protests have been struck by a major setback for the second time in a day after the Nairobi county banned the use of Uhuru Park for demonstrations.
TUKO.co.ke has learnt that the recreational Park will be closed down for in preparation for the Mashujaa day celebrations slated for October 20.
Acting County Secretary Leboo Motintant made the announcement which consequently means there might be no NASA demonstrations anywhere near the grounds.
The latest announcement comes only hours after acting interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangi issues a ban on the NASA protests within the Central Business District in various hotspot counties including Nairobi and Kisumu.
The CS on Thursday, October 12 invoked Public Order Act Cap 56 saying the Opposition supporters would no longer be allowed to picket inside the CBDs of the three cities.
“We have noted escalation of lawlessness especially in Homa Bay, Kisumu, Siaya, Migori and Nairobi,” said Matiang’i during a press conference.
NASA demos took a nasty turn on Wednesday, October 11 after protestors were caught on camera vandalizing vehicles and looting in various outlets within the Nairobi CBD.
In Kisumu, several supporters were shot and injured in protests which spilled into a confrontation between Police and protestors.
