About forty people contracted the new coronavirus after they participated in a mass in early May in Frankfurt, Germany, reported several vehicles on Saturday (23).
Six of those people were hospitalized, according to dpa news agency, which cites local health authorities.
This religious service was held in a Protestant church on May 10, a few days after the reopening of places of worship in Germany, notes the local newspaper “Frankfurter Rundschau.”
In the canton of Main-Kinzig-Kreis, on the outskirts of the city, local authorities announced on Friday that 16 people who participated in an “event in Frankfurt” were infected.
Thanks to a sharp slowdown in the epidemic, Germany lowered restrictions against the pandemic in early May.
But fear of a second wave is still present in this country, relatively less affected than some of its European neighbors.
On Saturday, authorities in the northern state of Lower Saxony announced that seven people had been infected at a restaurant in the town of Leer. In total, about fifty people had to be quarantined.
Germany on Saturday recorded 177,850 cases (+638 in 24 hours) of the new coronavirus and 8,216 deaths (+42), according to the Robert Koch Institute, which is responsible for pandemic statistics in the country.
