US says Iran’s arrest warrant for Trump is “propaganda coup”

An Iranian arrest order against the President of the United States, Donald Trump, and 35 others for the assassination of General Qassem Soleimani is a “propaganda coup”, US envoy to Iran, Brian Hook, told a news conference in Saudi Arabia on Monday.

“Our assessment is that Interpol does not intervene and does not issue red alerts based on a political nature,” said Hook alongside Saudi Arabian Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir in Riyadh.

“This is a political one. It has nothing to do with national security, international peace or promoting stability. It is a propaganda coup that nobody takes seriously,” said Hook.

Iran has asked Interpol for assistance in executing the warrant, Fars news agency reported.

The United States killed Soleimani, leader of the Revolutionary Guard Quds Force, with a drone attack in Iraq on January 3. The US government has accused Soleimani of orchestrating militia attacks aligned with Iran against US forces in the region.
