Argentina expects to receive “in the next few days” one million doses of the Chinese Sinopharm vaccine against covid-19, said on Monday (22) the new Minister of Health, Carla Vizzotti, who took office in the midst of a crisis, after the revelation of an irregular vaccination from acquaintances of his predecessor.

“Work is underway to deliver one million doses of the Chinese vaccine in the next few days,” the minister told Uncover radio. This Chinese vaccine received emergency authorization for use by the Ministry of Health on Sunday.

Vizzotti added that presidential advisor Cecilia Nicolini “is working in Russia to get an overview of delivery dates (of the new doses of the Sputnik V vaccines)”, while Argentina moves forward with the resolution “of the delivery in the first days of March of the vaccine for AstraZeneca “.

“With the entry of vaccines, the target population (of the vaccination campaign), which is 15 million people, can be vaccinated in a relatively short time,” he said.

Argentina, with 44 million inhabitants, has more than two million covid-19 infections and reached 51,000 deaths. To date, the country has received 1,220,000 doses of Sputnik V and 580,000 from Covishield, from the Indian Serum Institute.

Vizzotti replaced Ginés González García on Saturday, who resigned at the request of President Alberto Fernández, after 79-year-old journalist Horacio Verbitsky told a radio program on Friday that he managed to get vaccinated thanks to his friendship with the former minister , causing a flood of criticism.

About 13 complaints against the former minister were filed on Monday in court for this case.

“The concept that there is VIP vaccination in the Ministry of Health is false. What happened was a specific situation, that 10 people went to the Ministry of Health to be vaccinated and the president took action,” said the minister.
