American Ayanna Williams was famous for being the woman with the longest nails in the world, according to the Guinness World Records book. However, she said goodbye to the title last weekend after cutting them.
According to a publication on the Guinness website, Ayanna needed to use an electric rotary tool to remove long nails. Before saying goodbye, she took another measurement and found that her nails had already reached 733.55 cm.
She was officially recognized for the first time by the huge claws in 2017 and entered the record books the following year. At that time, the nails measured 576.4 cm and she needed more than two bottles of enamel and 20 hours to paint them. More recently, it took about 3 or 4 bottles of nail polish and the task completed in a matter of days.
“I have had my nails growing for a few decades. I am so, so ready for a new life. I know I will miss them, but it was about time – it is time for them to leave,” he commented to the publication.
Ayanna started to let her nails grow even in the early 1990s. She stated that she faced some difficulties in her routine and was unable to carry out activities such as washing the dishes or putting sheets on the bed.
I have to be very, very careful with my movements. Usually, in my mind, I am already preparing for the next step I have to take in order not to hurt my nails – or break them. I’m excited to cut them off because I’m looking forward to new beginnings.
The American also said she received a lot of support from people to make the decision – including children. Currently, Ayanna has grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
I have something I do with the kids when they come up to me and say ‘are these nails yours?’ and I say ‘yes’ and then I ask and say ‘how old are you?’ and they say ‘I’m ten or seven years old’, and I say ‘Guess how old my nails are? They are 28-29 years old! They are older than you! ‘
The remainder of the nails will be preserved and on display at Ripley’s Believe It or Not !, museum in Orlando, United States.
It will be incredible. It will be like a wax of myself, even though it’s just my nails. I can’t wait to see that, really. I will be smiling from ear to ear.
Although the most recent nail measurement has broken its own record, the title of longest nails in a pair of hands is with Lee Redmond, who started cultivating them in 1979 and reaching the 8.65 m mark.
