Main suspect in the disappearance of Madeleine McCann, in 2007, the German Christian Brueckner had the help of an accomplice, according to a Portuguese TV program.
According to the British newspaper Daily Mail, reports had already suggested that investigators are looking for a wanderer who lived near Praia da Luz at the time the girl disappeared.
The program called “Friday at 9” is due to reveal this week that detectives believe that Brueckner had help to kidnap the child.
In a preview of the program, presenter Sandra Felgueiras says: “German detectives confirmed the suspicion that Christian Brueckner had an accomplice.”
The allegation comes amid reports that detectives want to speak to a German wanderer who is believed to have been a friend Brueckner. He lived in a van 14 kilometers from Praia da Luz, in an area called Bravura Dam.
The area was searched days after the girl’s disappearance, but local reports reported that the police spent only two hours there and that the lake was not searched by divers.
Also in a preview of the program, Brueckner’s lawyer Friedrich Fuelcher says he was made a scapegoat by investigators.
He accuses German prosecutors of making statements about Brueckner’s guilt and Madeleine’s alleged murder based only on “the most fragile evidence”.
