New “pandemic” causes UK food and fuel shortages

Social distancing measures in the UK have dropped and as a result hundreds of thousands of people are being notified to comply with isolation.

From this Monday onwards, the use of masks and other measures of social distancing no longer mandatory in England, despite the fact that the country is experiencing a new wave of infections caused by the Delta variant.

The first day has been dubbed “Freedom Day,” but the truth is, not everyone can—or at least should—enjoy it. The UK is now going through the “pingdemic”, a sequel to the covid-19 pandemic.

Many Brits have been notified to be in isolation at home for ten days because they have been in contact with an infected person. The notice has been made through the British Government’s contact tracking application, similar to Portugal’s STAYAWAY COVID.

According to The New York Times, several workers have been affected by these warnings, leading many businesses to close their doors or start a sudden search for staff.

Who receives this notification not required by law to be in isolation, although the British Government argues that they should. This Thursday, Boris Johnson made exceptions for workers considered essential.

With hundreds of thousands of workers at home, the UK is experiencing a shortage of food and fuel.

Some of the UK’s biggest supermarkets warned on Thursday that they were unable to restore the stock of some products and gas station operators recognized that some of their pumps were drying out. CNN.

New coronavirus cases in the country hover around 50,000 a day, and around 620,000 people in England and Wales were sent to isolation from 8 to 14 July, according to data from the British National Health Service, the NHS .

“There seems to be absolute chaos at the heart of Government at the moment: you have ministers who don’t follow the same script, and that suggests there is no script,” said Tim Bale, professor of politics at Queen Mary University London to NY Times.

It’s a domino effect and the situation tends to get worse. The more cases of covid-19, the more people will be notified to comply with isolation.
