The President of the United States, Donald Trump, it took just over 1,200 days to hit the 20,000 mark of false or misleading statements, according to The Fact Checker, a survey by The Washington Post. On average, there have been 23 lies or misinformation per day since the project was created 14 months ago.
The survey also points out that Trump it took 827 days to get the first 10,000 false or misleading statements – an average of 12 lines a day – but only 440 to hit the 20,000 mark, reached on the 9th.
Between the first and the last 10,000 statements, accusations that Trump would have tried to pressure Ukraine for personal political gains, the consequent judgment of its impeachment process (that did not pass the Senate), the covid-19 pandemic and protests against police violence motivated by the death of George Floyd.
Discussions about the possibility of the president’s removal, as well as the suspicions that led to them, contributed to almost 1,200 of the last 10,000 lying or misleading statements by Trump. THE coronavirus, on the agenda just a few months ago, answered about 1,000 statements.
The idea that the president would exceed the 20,000 mark seemed “ridiculous” when The Fact Checker started the survey, says the Washington Post. That’s because, at first, Trump he had a daily average of false or misleading statements below five, which would mean about 7,000 lines in four years in office.
Until July 9, however, there were 20,055 lies or misinformation in 1,267 days. “THE tsunami of untruths gets bigger and bigger “, he warns.
Also according to the survey, Trump reached 20,000 statements during an interview with Fox News on the 9th of last month. About half of the 62 lies or misinformation told by the president that day came from the conversation with anchor Sean Hannity.
Check out some of them:
“Former President Barack Obama did not want to give the police additional military equipment”
Obama, recalls the newspaper, actually reduced the government program in question, but still allowed the use of specialized firearms, manned and unmanned aircraft, explosives and equipment to disperse riots and strikes.
“Trump has huge support from the African American community “
There is no survey to prove this.
“Obama and former Vice President Joe Biden [hoje adversário de Trump nas eleições] practiced espionage during their campaign and knew everything that was going on “
Trump has been making accusations of this kind to Obama since 2017, all based on little or no evidence.
