At least 11 people were injured in a major fire that hit the US Navy ship at a Naval Base in San Diego, California.According to information from the Los Angeles Times, the fire was reported initially after 9:00 am (1:00 pm Brasília time), after a strong explosion.
The USS Bonhomme Richard, a 255-meter-long amphibious vessel, was undergoing routine maintenance at the time the flames started. The causes of the fire are yet to be investigated by the authorities.
Brian O’Rourke, a spokesman for the southwestern Navy region, informed the local press that some 200 sailors and officers were on board. So far, 11 sailors have been sent to local hospitals with minor injuries.
