The alarms of a new serious injury affecting star guard Klay Thompson were reignited on Wednesday within the Golden State Warriors organization after the player suffered during training in Southern California.
Although the extent of the injury is still officially unknown, Thompson will undergo an MRI on his right leg this Thursday, where the damage suffered could affect the Achilles tendon.
Thompson missed all of last season after tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee during Game 6 of the NBA Finals against the Toronto Raptors.
The Warriors were optimistic that Thompson, who has spent more than a year recovering from the injury, would return in full force heading into the upcoming 2020-21 season.
Warriors coach Steve Kerr said recently that while the Warriors did not authorize Thompson to make plays during his team’s bubble in San Francisco, he was satisfied with the way the rehabilitation of the selected shooting guard was progressing to the Game of the Stars
Thompson’s latest setback leaves even more potential questions for a group of Warriors who were confident they could compete again next season in what is expected to be a highly competitive race within the Western Conference.
The Warriors selected 19-year-old center James Wiseman as number two in the NBA college draft this Wednesday.
However, the center of attention across the league was in shock and disbelief throughout the organization after news of Thompson’s latest injury spread across the league.
The Warriors only hope that the tests on Thompson’s leg come back clean and that he can return to the court with his teammates Stephen Curry and Draymond Green, who through social networks asked for everything to go well for the All-Star guard .
