Roland-Garros: Andy Murray invited by the organizers

Absent at Roland-Garros since 2017, former world number 1 Andy Murray was invited for the 2020 edition of the Parisian Grand Slam (September 27-October 11).

For the first time since 2017 and his semi-final lost in five sets against Stanislas Wawrinka, Andy Murray will make his return to Parisian clay. As for the US Open, the former world number one will benefit from one of the invitations to participate in the Roland-Garros tournament, scheduled from September 27 to October 11.

The only foreigner invited among men

The 33-year-old Scotsman, who fell beyond 100th place after hip surgeries that prompted him to announce his retirement in early 2019, has finally reversed his decision and is attempting a return to the highest level. At the US Open, for his reappearance in Grand Slam for the first time since the Australian Open 2019, Murray spent a round, before losing to Félix Auger-Aliassime.

Apart from the Briton, 110th in the last ATP ranking, all the other invitations were awarded to Frenchmen in the men’s table. Among the women guests are Canadian Eugénie Bouchard, 26, former world number 5 and now 167th, and Bulgarian Tsvetana Pironkova, recent quarter-finalist at the US Open. As well as the seasoned Pauline Parmentier, 34 years old and 162nd in the world, winner in 2019 of the Fed Cup with the French team in Australia.
