Kristina Mladenovic did not pass the first round of Roland Garros, eliminated by Laura Siegemund (7-5 6-3). The Frenchwoman should have won the first round, without a refereeing error.
As often with the French in recent hours, disappointment and regret stand out during this Roland-Garros 2020. Kristina Mladenovic, however, has apologies and may blame the referee. Without a big mistake on her part, the Frenchwoman would have won the first set, which could have changed the fate of this first round.
A doubled bullet that changes everything
The story takes place in the first set, when Mladenovic leads 5-1 against Siegemund and gets one of his 7 set points. When concluding, she touches the net and loses the point, which is logically indicated by the referee. On the other hand, it does not see that the French ball had doubled in the German court. Instead of giving the point and therefore the set to Mladenovic, the referee offers the point to his opponent.
Kristina Mladenovic loses the point after the ball had doubled! On slow motion, it seems obvious but the referee gives the point to Laura Siegemund #Roland Garros▶ Follow the match live: https://t.co/9UF1aTHtxw pic.twitter.com/qRh17fyXqj

A 6-0 that hurts a lot
The result of this gross refereeing error was hard to digest for the 44th player in the world, who gave up the next six games and thus the first round to Siegemund (5-7), who also happened to report to the referee that the ball had doubled. The German won a less stunning second round (6-3), breaking Mladenovic at the best time, a few moments before concluding in two hours this first round played under the roof of the Central.
The first direct consequence of this glaring error is therefore a new premature elimination of the Frenchwoman, and thus yet another disappointment for the Tricolores, who are struggling to shine in this very dull Roland Garros for the moment. When nothing goes right…
