The President of the United States, Donald Trump, today threatened to impose new tariffs against Beijing, claiming to have had access to evidence linking a laboratory in the city of Wuhan, China, to the coronavirus pandemic.
Asked if he had seen anything giving him a high degree of confidence that the Wuhan Institute of Virology was the source of the outbreak, Trump replied, “Yes, I saw it.”
Pressed by reporters at the White House about details that make him so sure, Trump just replied, “I can’t tell you that.”
The President of the United States was also asked about a possible cancellation of U.S. debt obligations to China due to the origins of the coronavirus.
“You can do that with tariffs,” he said. Trump, without going into more detail.
The total number of confirmed cases of the new coronavirus in the United States has grown to 1,031,659, according to today’s update (30) from the CDC (Center for Disease Control and Prevention).
The number of deaths due to covid-19 reached 60,057.
Compared to yesterday, there were 2,552 new deaths caused by covid-19 in the country, an increase of 4.4%. The pace is higher than that recorded the day before: from the day before yesterday to yesterday the increase was 4% (from 55,258 to 57,505 dead).
